Hello gang. I have not written a newsletter in a while because I am trying to finish my book, the first draft of which is due with the publishers in May.
Just to make life more difficult for myself I have also decided to run 100km across the month of May in order to raise money for the humanitarian crisis in Ukraine.
Running has been a huge part of me getting and staying sober over the past seven years. It gives me focus, headspace and a feeling of fulfilment. Running in nature is a beautiful thing to do and I like to set myself targets in order to stay motivated.
This particular target was motivated by a desire to raise money to help the people of Ukraine. But also because ‘100k In May’ has got a nice ring to it. I couldn’t think of anything as punchy that would work with March, April, June or July. So there you go. Just sponsor me - you can track my progress across the month via my Just Giving page which is linked to my Strava account.
Anyway, sorry I’ve got nothing else to share with you this week - this letter is simply a shameless request for sponsorship.
I shall return with something more substantial next week. In the meantime you can listen to the podcasts below, both of which I think are real corkers.
Be lucky - and don’t let the dickheads get you down.
The Soberful Podcast with Veronica Valli
Veronica Valli was a superb guest on The Reset podcast a few weeks back. We got along well so she invited me onto her brilliant Soberful podcast which you can listen to here. Veronica is a psychotherapist who runs a successful course that helps people to stop drinking. She focusses on the idea that sober living is much more fun than drunk living. Something I 100% agree with. Hope you enjoy listening.
This weeks Reset Podcast with David Whitehouse
David Whitehouse is the author of About A Son, a truly extraordinary book about grief, love and justice. He is also an old pal and I loved chatting to him on the pod about how he brought this sad, moving and beautiful story to life. Buy the book here.
