Just wanted to say I have recently subscribed Sam after listening to the free podcasts. Keep the good work coming, I had a fairly serious mental health breakdown end of 2006 into 2007. Unfortunately it was the beginning of the end to my 22 year old marriage.

However I got some help and life is good now and I have picked up a lot from your guests and your newsletters!

Very good, as always. It was the norm in the 70s for the players to have businesses alongside there playing career. Not quite supplementing their income but having a back up should it all end tomorrow. Dad did the markets early 70s and Frank senior, John Charles and even Harry had market stalls. John’s was always a sad story for me. So yes, despite what people imagined they worked hard to maintain an image, outside of the game. Unless players go on to work in the club/football in another role there wasn’t much else. I suppose that’s changed in that there are so many media platforms nowadays ex players have other ways in. I wish Tony good luck and I’m sure he'll get through; he’s smart as well as talented. Thanks Sam.
