I enjoyed reading this, thanks Sam. Nice to see a balanced but positive view on parenting that doesn’t focus on blame. All we can do is our best, as imperfect as we are, hope for the best and love the little sods even when they aren’t very lovable. I’ve survived three teenagers so far and only two years left of the last one being a teen. It’s hard and largely thankless but they do eventually turn into palatable humans, who will value the time you invested you made in them most of all. Keep on keeping on 👍🏼

Thanks Emma. Parenting is tough, and often thankless. But it’s the most important job there is.

Lovely read Sam, well balanced and bang on it when highlighting the structural barriers some kids and families face. As you say, its so naive to suggest each kid watches Adolesence and the likes of Andrew Tait lose their audiences. Love the West Ham kit on your 12th birthday and that photo of you on your 15th reminds me of me, trying to be a wannabe James Dean ⚒️⚒️⚒️

Thanks Sam - enjoyed reading this.

I've been umming and ahhing about watching this show - i dont really want to watch something that is going to make me feel any more helpless to change any of the current news. And the thought of Stephen Graham crying into his kid's toys doesn't do anything to make me change my mind. But he is good though....

("Dad. Don't worry. I am not going to..." is the response to many of my attempts at raising difficult topics.)

Good read thanks Sam. Navigating through teenage years hasn't been easy but open lines of communication and certainly a few laughs along the way have helped. We have a 19y/o boy and twin 18y/o girls who appear well-rounded and reasonably communicative. One thing that we have always pushed a bit more is physical activity, just seems so important in a growing person. Team sports generate a belonging and commitment to others and exercise just gets kids up and out of the house. Also, as sports fan, my kids have picked up a passion for going along to watch live sport.

Cheers Grant - yep, me and my lad go running together and he comes to the gym with me for a class every Saturday, been doing it since he was 7. I've found it gets us both out of a bad mood quicker than anything, plus it's just time reserved for the two of us to be together.
