Did we all go to the Brecon Beacons? Perhaps orienteering is a good analogy; some of us find the trig point and some don’t. The reason I didn’t is because we'd stopped at the only shop we'd seen all week and spent all our money in one shot. It was as simple as this for me; make room in my back pack for the waterproof Jacket or the sweets, drinks and crisps I'd bought. It rained of course and I got a bollocking from the bloke. Proving it takes more than a map and a compass to find your way through life.

Keep on course Sam! X

"and look at me! That lonely and rejected dweeb I describe above grew up to become one of Britain’s most sexually attractive and physically powerful human males."

You seem to have missed Britain's best journalist from this Sam! :)

Nice one, Sam!!

It's quite staggering...well it would be, if we really did know, were truly aware of just how much we do drag behind ourselves from, among other things, thwarted longings & pluckings of the heart strings and so much more..

I reckon it's safe to say it's plenty and, that to varying extents, it does, as you state, shape us as well, let's hope, as it also makes us smile warmly at just how much those young love moments meant back then. Just reading your own retelling, that it has so many parallels with mine, the school trips, the 3yr older girl from another school who drove me crazy...it felt like love, and love was what it was. Wonderful stuff, and so powerful

The more you write from your heart and soul, Sam, the more so many are warming to the notion and the therapeutic value of opening up themselves.

Due for the big 65 very soon myself, and with experience aplenty, I'm far from beyond that need to share, and to listen to the experiences of others, and learn like the proverbial sponge, until I draw my last breath. There really are some great people within this community, Sam, and changes are happening, good things are stirring.

Thank you, Sam, you good thing, for doing what you do so well, and we'll wait eagerly for the next ones, buddy.

Stay well, take care

Nice one Sam - your numerous stories keep the IFS listeners entertained on an almost daily basis but some of them really strike a chord too - being such an open book shows amazing strength - and wrapping it up in comedy is not only a brilliant and non-destructive coping mechanism for yourself, but for the listeners too - never stop Delaneying - keep em coming Sam!
